If you are struggling for things to do with the kids at Easter then why not take a look at our canal boats for hire? They are perfect for that get away break where you have the chance to relax and take in the countryside around you.
Recently we had a family from New Zealand who were visiting some relatives but had the Easter weekend spare with nothing to do. They wanted to fill all the time that they were spending here and when they came across canal boat cruises they were instantly intrigued and shocked that they could actually have their own canal boat for the weekend.
Karen, Cash, Pete, Troy, Jen and Teish chose Elle’s Belle to hire; they arrived at Riley Green Marina extremely excited. We then talked them through the various legal safety requirements before training them in the operation of the canal boat.
Once they got the hang of it we had them navigate a member of our award winning team to the locks where we then provided further training on how they work and their operation. This family got to grips with the boat really quickly and once we knew they were happy and we were confident we let them take their boat for their getaway weekend.
When they returned from their getaway weekend they left us their “captain’s log” in our guestbook:
Day 1: “We awoke to a mix of weather conditions, sunshine, hail, wind and even a bit of snow! – even though Lesley and her team were lovely at training us on how to use the boat it would seem the men in our family haven’t quite sussed the boat length out yet and we have had the occasional bump but no damage caused as there are the bumpers on the boat side however we are catching the boating bug. Didn’t want to moor up and stop sailing but with darkness falling we knew we had too!”
Day 2: “After mooring up last night we were surprised how quiet it was and also how calming the gentle lapping of the water against the boat was – something you cannot buy! There was a lot of snow on the ground this morning and pretty blizzard conditions. Again the men are still having trouble working out the boat size and we have had a few more bumps today, whoever said practice made perfect was wrong!”
Day 3: “Finally we got some sunshine! The men of our family who we thought would be able to navigate the boat after such expert training have proved to be useless! – haha. We attempted to ‘Parallel Park’ in a narrow canal so we could moor up and go and have a drink in one of the canal side pubs. Their attempt proved futile! With our booze supplies running low it meant one thing – time to return the boat. We were very sad to have to hand Elle’s Belle back over but rest assured we will be back!”
